Reasons Why a Document May Fail to Be Sent for Signature

There may be situations where a document cannot be sent for signing. This is usually due to the following reasons:

1. The document already contains a certificate or is otherwise locked against edits (e.g., it has already been signed). In this case, the document cannot be uploaded for signing again, as this would violate the certificate.

2. The document is larger than 8MB – The maximum allowed document size for sending for signature is 8MB. If you are trying to upload a larger document, try compressing it first (e.g., using online tools). A document larger than 8MB cannot be uploaded for signing (this refers to the total maximum size; if you are uploading multiple documents at once, their total size must not exceed 8MB).

3. The document is editable (e.g., an editable PDF form) – Such a document must first be saved (e.g., through a browser) and only then can the saved document be uploaded for signing. It is necessary to remove any editable fields before uploading.

4. The document is in an old PDF version – Only PDF documents in version 1.5 or newer can be uploaded for signing. You cannot upload a PDF document in version 1.4 (from 2001) or older. Such a document must first be converted to a newer PDF version, which can be done using an online tool.

If none of these reasons apply and you are still unable to upload the document for signing, please contact us. We will look into the issue and find a solution.
